Since its beginning, Services Mobiles SMT has been offering heat treatment solutions at its plant using its state-of-the-art equipment. Over the years, our infrastructures and high-performance portable equipment have allowed us to perform all heat treatment processes that meet the highest quality standards.
Our equipment:
SMT Mobile Services also means quality service you can count on:
For parts that cannot be moved, SMT Mobile Services has the solution. Our specialized equipment allows us to perform a wide range of heat treatments directly on your site.
Whether it is to locally treat a surface on piping with electric heating pads or to heat-up the inside of an aluminum furnace with our portable high velocity burners, our experience and equipment allow us to meet your specific needs.
Our mobile modular furnace solution can also be an advantage for some of our customers with various technical constraints for non-standard parts.
With SMT Mobile Services, you benefit from heat treatments that meet the highest industry standards, and this is what sets us apart:
Stress relief annealing is used to eliminate or lower the level of residual stresses induced in assemblies by welding, machining or cold working operations, or even by previous heat treatment.
This is a treatment that SMT Mobile Services performs on a regular, even daily, basis whether at its plant or on-site.
Post-weld heat treatment (PWHT) is a process that refers to stress relief annealing and is necessary to remove residual stresses after the application of welds. The process and treatment parameters will vary depending on the type and thickness of the material as indicated by the different industry associations (ASME, AWS, API, etc.). This type of treatment is very much in demand in most industries and is one of SMT’s specialties.
This heat treatment is used to immobilize a cylindrical part in another. This technique consists of expanding, by heating, the outer part in order to insert the other one. Upon cooling, the contraction of the metal will immobilize the inserted part to form a perfect fit. This method is extremely effective for drive shafts.
Tempering is a treatment mainly applied after quenching to allow for the attenuation of the related defects and to generally give the steel an intermediate state between the quenched and the annealed state.
The normalizing heat treatment is considered to be a short time anneal. It has the effect of:
It is generally applied to high-carbon steels in order to define or verify their grade through mechanical tests (traction, resilience, hardness, etc.)
Preheating of parts reduces the risk of cracking, lowers the hardness of the area affected by the weld and decreases the stress concentration due to cooling of the welds. Preheating of parts before welding is governed by the Canadian Standards Association’s CSA‑W59 standard, and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), Section VIII of the Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code.
This process involves heating a coated and/or lined metal part to a low temperature. It allows the coatings to dry or fully cure more quickly.
This treatment consists of accelerating the structural hardening which takes place by natural aging at room temperature. The formation of precipitate is accentuated by artificial aging using a furnace at a given and controlled temperature.
The solution annealing treatment involves heating an alloy to an appropriate temperature, maintaining this temperature long enough to cause the transformation of one or more constituents into a solid solution, and cooling it fast enough to keep those constituents into the solution. Along with quenching and aging, this heat treatment is an integral part of the principle of structural hardening.
Quenching allows to considerably increase specific mechanical characteristics of the steel such as:
It consists of rapidly cooling a steel brought to a high temperature using a quenching medium (air, water, water-salt, oil, salt, forced air, etc.)
